More early diagnosis
and intervention

We continue to advocate for the families in the catchment areas of St Joseph’s in the South District, St Bernard’s and St Pauls as all these schools continue to lack LSF provision for students with special needs.
Early diagnosis and intervention play a crucial role in positively impacting the development of children with autism and developmental delays. During early childhood, the brain exhibits high plasticity, allowing it to adapt and rewire neural connections. Early intervention capitalises on this window of opportunity. Intensive speech and language (SLT) and occupational therapy (OT), can enhance neural pathways related to communication, social skills, and motor abilities.

Early Diagnosis

Early diagnosis allows for timely initiation of SLT. Children learn essential communication skills – speech, language comprehension, and nonverbal communication in the first few years of life.

Effective communication enhances social interactions, academic performance, and overall quality of life. Moreover, early diagnosis allows families to access resources and support groups and parents learn effective strategies to support their child’s development, fostering a positive home environment.

Early Intervention

Early intervention helps manage challenging behaviours associated with autism and developmental delays. Behavioural therapies provide strategies for coping with sensory sensitivities, repetitive behaviours, and emotional regulation.

Children benefit from early exposure to social settings, peer interactions, and playgroups ,while social skills training helps them navigate social cues, make friends, and participate in group activities.
